Job Description Job Description Description: Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction. 1.0 FTE- Elementary School Mild/ Moderate Special Education Paraprofessional (Whiteman Campus) Salary Schedule $35,000 - $40,000; 189 Day Employee We anticipate new to DLS employees to fall in the lower or middle third of this schedule. Overview of position: Monday-Friday from 7:15am-3:15pm. This appointee is responsible for supporting the educational, behavioral, social-emotional, physical and daily living needs of K-2 elementary students with disabilities in a fully inclusive setting between kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms. Denver Language School is seeking to fill this position as soon as possible. The posting will remain live until filled and no later than May 1, 2026. This role is part of the Special Education Team and will report to the Head of Special Education. Success in the position will be evaluated on: Quality and consistency of appropriate and compliance-focused documentation, their effectiveness of communication with the families of students with IEPs, and the safety, learning and growth of the students in their care. Pay and Benefits: Employees at DLS are compensated in accordance with other Denver-area charter schools. The annual salary of $35,000 - $40,000 will be prorated to reflect a mid-year start. 10 days of PTO with an option to roll days to the following school year. PTO will be prorated to reflect a mid-year start. Weekly professional development training and early student release each Friday. Discounted rates for after-school Fun Clubs for children. Individualized coaching and support, as well as building-wide professional development. Employees' children get priority in student enrollment, but there is no guarantee of enrollment due to seat availability. Health, vision, and dental insurance subsidized by the school. Short term disability insurance, term life insurance paid fully by the school. Employee assistance program and online mental health support paid by the school. Essential Functions and Objectives Provides services to one or more individual students as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504, Behavior Intervention Plan, including supporting academic, health, daily living, and behavioral needs. Supports implementation of students’ individual behavior intervention plans, crisis plans, and health care plans. Monitors classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teachers and special education teachers, for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting learning goals. Implements student accommodations and modifications as outlined in their individual IEP or 504 in both academic and nonacademic settings throughout the school day. Under the supervision of a special education teacher, you will collect data on students’ individual progress. Communicates and coordinates with students and parents about routine educational issues at the direction of the supervising special education teacher. Skills Knowledge of and ability to effectively use approved student behavior management techniques. Deep understanding of laws and DPS Board policies pertaining to students with IEPs. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to multitask and prioritize work as needed; be willing to manage and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands Have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position; standing, sitting, squatting, and running. Proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is appreciated but not required. Requirements: Qualifications High School Diploma Required, Bachelor's degree strongly preferred 2 years of experience working with elementary aged students Background in special education, social work, behavior interventions, or ABA Therapy. Candidate should have Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NCI) or be willing to obtain certification within a reasonable time after hiring.
