Job Description:
We are looking for Peer Counselors to serve as mentors and
guides for our high school juniors during a pivotal two-week summer
intensive program at CU Boulder. Under the direction of the
PreCollegiate Program Director, a Peer Counselor works as part of
the Roaring Fork PreCollegiate (RFPC), Summit Pre-Collegiate (SPC),
and CU Partnership Outreach Program (POP) teams to strategically
support first-generation students throughout the CU Summer Program.
The ideal candidate must be an alumni of the RFPC program, has
experience working with and advocating for diverse student
populations, primarily latino/a/x, hispanic, and anglo,
collaborating and working with other program staff and alumni, as
well as Coordinators/Directors. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives
direct supervision from the Summit Pre-Collegiate Program Director
PRIMARY DUTIES Mentorship & Support: Build authentic, trust-based
relationships with participants to help them navigate campus life
and first generation experience. The "Campus Guide": Live and work
alongside students at CU Boulder, helping them navigate campus
life, dining halls, and the "vibe" of a major university.
Mentorship: Lead small group discussions and one-on-one check-ins
to help students process the academic and social challenges of the
college-prep experience. Academic Support: Assist students with
summer program workshops and college essay brainstorming and
revisions. Community Building: Facilitate evening activities and
team-building exercises to create a sense of belonging and "college
identity." Safety & Supervision: Ensure a safe, inclusive, and
supportive environment for all participants in accordance with RFSD
and CU Boulder policies. The "Lived Experience": As a
first-generation college student or graduate yourself, you
understand the unique hurdles, questions, and triumphs that come
with this path. Relatability: You are someone who can speak the
language of high school juniors while maintaining the professional
boundaries of a district employee. Energy & Leadership: You’re
ready to be "on" for two weeks—bringing high energy, empathy, and
problem-solving skills to every situation. LOGISTICS Duration: June
7-19, 2026, including 3-4 days of on site training Location: CU
Boulder Campus. Requirements: Must pass a background check and be
CPR and First Aid certified (CPR training can be provided)
Additional Responsibilities Include: Attend all program orientation
sessions prior to the start of the program Attend all training
sessions prior to the start of the program Working evenings and
weekends QUALIFICATIONS Currently enrolled in a post-secondary
academic program, or be recently graduated from a post secondary
program Alumni of the Summit Pre-Collegiate Program Language
proficiency: Spanish bilingual (oral and written) strongly
preferred. First-generation college student Excellent
communication, presentation, written and interpersonal skills.
Team-oriented. Ability to remain flexible and adjust to changing
priorities. Awareness of the sensitive nature of the work and the
need for confidentiality. A sense of humor. SALARY RANGE AND DAYS
WORKED Days Worked: This will be a non-exempt forty (40) hour per
week position for the duration of the summer program and training,
June 5-19. Candidates must be able to commit to working every day
of the program that they are scheduled, including evenings and
weekends, not to exceed 40 hours per week. Benefits: Housing and
