Services and Administrative Services. GSC supports the National
Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part
of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) and we are currently
seeking a General Assistant at McMurdo Station. As a General
Assistant you are responsible for general labor such as moving
furniture and other items as needed around station. Additional
duties will include providing support to facilities personnel as
needed, and assisting with other station services tasking when
primary tasking is complete. POSITION: General Assistant SEASON:
Winter (March-October) LOCATION : McMurdo Station, Antarctica
SECTOR/DEPT : Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC) Antarctica
SALARY: $810 per week ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in Station Services daily & weekly meetings Participate
in Station Services and other department (as needed) safety
trainings & JHAs Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and
ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
Responsible for moving lodging & station furniture items, such as
bed frames, mattresses, wardrobes, couches, chairs, tables etc.
Movements can at times be up several flights of stairs Assembling
said furniture when needed Performs daily tasking in an efficient
and thorough manner Able to complete assignments in a timely,
organized manner, following through with tasking from beginning to
end Able to work in a team unit composed of diverse personalities
Able and willing to work as a team when lifting items in excess of
50 pounds Able and willing to work solo or as a team when moving
items up several flights of stairs Displays self-motivation in
physically challenging and atypical work environment Able to
maintain flexibility and positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced
work setting May also be tasked to assist in special projects such
as, inventories, carpet extraction, waxing and buffing floors, and
seasonal building opening/closing Responsible for reporting any
maintenance issues Occasionally assists in other station services
departments as time allows Performs other related duties as
assigned by manager-on-duty. EDUCATION: High school education or
GED. REQUIREMENTS Must be able to lift/carry/move up to 50 lbs for
an extended period of time Must be able to lift/carry/move items
50-300 lbs, as a team, for extended periods of time Must wear
composite toe shoes Must wear proper PPE as issued This position
requires spending time outdoors working in cold temperatures, This
position may require after-hours (outside of standard 7am-5pm) work
occasionally. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described
here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential function of this job. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to move around the facility 75% or more of the time. The
employee is occasionally required to remain in a stationary
position for at least 25% of the time. The employee frequently is
required to maneuver self to be able to reach product and/or
materials needed for task. The employee must regularly lift and/or
move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 65
pounds, and occasionally lift and move as a team items weighing 300
pounds. Must have capacity for exposure to long hours, days, and
weeks away from home. EXPERIENCE : Minimum of one year experience
in a custodial related or manual labor industry required. Previous
experience with Stations Services in Antarctica may be accepted in
lieu of minimum experience. OTHER : US citizenship or permanent
residency required A prerequisite of employment for this position
is to successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background
Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment. Candidates hired
for this position will be required to complete; online forms,
